What is the Diner En Blanc
Francois Pasquier started the concept of Le Dîner en Blanc in 1988 in Paris with a simple gathering of friends. He asked they all dressed in white to identify one another and meet in the park where they were to hold a picnic. The event gained momentum as friends invited more friends and it spread to other locations in Paris and eventually various cities around the world. The event is designed to promote Ethics, Values, Friendship, Secrecy, Effort, Joie de Vivre (The joy of living), Heritage and Magic.
The location of the event is kept a secret until only hours prior. Guests will meet at a bus location that will transport them to the secret location where they will dine, dance and enjoy.
The event is always held in the amazing outdoor location in a public area of the city. The Diner en Blanc creates a spectacle as a 1,000 plus guest descend on an area that will become the largest all white picnic to hit the city.
The member and guest will bring with them a table, white table cloth, 2 chairs, a picnic basket and china
They arrive dressed in all white and are guided to a pre‑assigned area to set up. This is organized by their table leaders.
Guests set up their white tables, chairs and tablecloths; as well as china, silverware and any table décor.
Following set up, together all guests will wave their napkins high in the air to signal the start of dinner.
Guests will enjoy either their pre-made baskets of food or can purchase a basket on the Diner en Blanc website when registering. Wine and Champagne are the only alcoholic beverages allowed at the event. During dinner guests are encourage to chat with neighbors and enjoy one another’s company.
Once dinner is complete, the traditional sparkler moment will take place. All guests will receive a sparkler to light up the night and signify the opening of the dance floor for the party
A fabulous dance party will begin!
When it is time to say goodnight, guests will clean up, pack up, and take all evidence of a party with them. Guests will follow their table leaders upon exiting and return to their original meeting space… Until next year, when another secret picnic by Diner En Blanc takes place.
